At Bio Sealed, we use Hydrogen Peroxide in a high concentrated formula to sterilize establishments with our dry fog machines. We wanted to provide education on why, so we developed this article to help understand that why.
What is Hydrogen Peroxide (H202)?
It is a peroxide (a compound containing two oxygen atoms bonded together in its molecule or as the anion O22−) ) and an oxidizing agent (a substance that tends to bring about oxidation by being reduced and gaining electrons) that has disinfectant, antiviral, and anti-bacterial activities. When used, oxidizing activity occurs that produces free radicals (an uncharged molecule {typically highly reactive and short-lived} having an unpaired valence electron) that leads to oxidative damage to proteins, membrane lipids, and can inactivate and destroy pathogens (a bacterium, virus, or other microorganism that can cause disease) and prevent infection diseases from spreading.
Hydrogen peroxide is only different from water due to an extra oxygen molecule. This molecule however transforms it into an immensely powerful oxidizer that has countless advantages in life.
What can it be used for?
Hydrogen Peroxide can be used on the skin as a mild antiseptic that will prevent infection to minor cuts, burns, and scrapes (in minor forms). It is common to use as a mouth rinse for removing mucus and relieving mouth irritation from canker sores, gingivitis, and cold sores. It is deemed safe from the FDA on the GRAS list.
Hydrogen Peroxide is used daily in household environments. It is quite common to clean your dishwasher, sink, counters, and cutting boards due to the amount of fungi, black yeast, and germs that can form on these devices.
Coinciding with these uses it is quite common to sanitize your toothbrush, your toilet, and even your makeup brushes.
Why does Bio Sealed use Hydrogen Peroxide in their sterilization services?
Since Hydrogen Peroxide has been shown effective against all forms of microorganisms, including ones in dormant form that have a high resistance such as bacterial spores, and even with infectious proteins such as prior, its application is perfect for in our medical grade dry fog machines and our vaporization methods.
When our machines disperse our concentrated Hydrogen Peroxide, it is coming out in such small micron droplets (2.4XF) that it is targeting the entire cubic area in a room. These powerful droplets are floating around as the PPM (particles per millions) increase to create the efficacy needed for the 6-log reduction (99.9999% efficacy) but balanced perfectly to not create wetting and lose effectiveness. Hydrogen Peroxides use as an antimicrobial chemical for disinfection and sterilization applications has a rapid and proven ability. Due to recent technology advances that have been made with our CURoxide formulation, when being disbursed the peroxide and other chemicals enhance the antimicrobial activity in the active agent. This is the goal we are seeking in our service.
Conclusion:
Hydrogen Peroxide has many uses in the world of sterilization and disinfecting. Understanding the components that make up this powerful chemical are essential to utilize its benefits. Our team understands these benefits and implements them to create services to help better protect our community.
